Stuff I Like: The Tiger Tail

I recently picked up a Tiger Tail for the facility and liked it so much it never made it there. I had to order 3 more for my clients and I wanted to share it with you guys. It is a great way to get a bit more targeted with your soft tissue work than a foam roller and much more portable and easier to use when traveling.

Hi James – love your site and this tip about the Tiger tail…just wondering if you have any recommendations for doing self-massage on your upper back and shoulders. I’m having a lot of issues with shoulders and its tough to hit that with a foam roller. Was thinking a tennis ball might work, but seems to be a bit soft. Tried a baseball…but that was a bit hard (I sorta sound like Goldylocks and the 3 bears right now
…anyway…any suggestions you can give would be appreciated

@ Chuck – My best advice would be to get a massage from a good sports massage guy and get it loosened up and then use the baseball to help improve on their initial work. Nothing will replace a real massage and if you have some sort of pain that you think is coming from a soft tissue problem then you should seek the help of a good masseuse.

Looks cool, may have to check one out. Big fan also of using a single lacrosse ball and 2 of them taped together. Of course the foam roller also rocks.

How would the Tiger compare to using a dowel of comparable diameter?

@ Janet – would probably be similar but the Tiger Tail rolls so it would be closer to a rolling pin than a dowel. The Tiger Tail has a little bit of give to it and has a small bit of padding on it so it isn’t as vicious as a rolling pin but you could certainly use something similar to get the same effect.
