How to save your knees during squats

February 15th, 2010

I was going through my YouTube videos and found this one that never got posted here. It is a great video demo on how to squat properly – more importantly, it shows you how to avoid putting excessive stress on the knees during squats.

If you feel that you can not squat or that excessive squats kill your knees then watch this video! It will help you get more drive out of your hips, which will not only feel better but help you get more leg drive on the trail.

    Hi,

What do you think about using gym belts while doing squats with a greater weight (lets say over 70% of my maximum)? Does it really help to keep my back straight and healthy, or is it not unnecesary (if not harmful)?

Weight lifting belts are for people who get paid based on how much they lift. If your core can’t handle the load then your legs can’t really handle it either without the weight belt. That makes the strength very limited on the trail. I never use a weight lifting belt, but I also don’t back squat. I use front squats and single leg exercises as they avoid the bad movement and lumbar pressure that make weight belts seem like a good idea.

This is by far the best squatting analysis I’ve ever seen.
