There was a time when I lived to push the limits on my bike.
I’m talking 40+ foot gap jumps. 15-foot drops. The kind of stuff that made people stop and stare, or shake their heads and mutter, “that guy’s nuts.” I even placed 3rd in an amateur freeride/ slopestyle competition back in the day, which felt like a huge accomplishment for someone who didn’t grow up racing or riding BMX.
For a while, that was my identity. I was the guy who would ride anything. No fear. No hesitation. Just me and my bike out there testing what was possible.
But time has a way of humbling you.
After enough crashes, I started to realize I didn’t bounce like I used to. What used to be a bruise and a funny story turned into a few days (or weeks) of limping and ice packs. My body was sending me signals I didn’t want to listen to, and eventually I couldn’t ignore them anymore.
Then life added another layer. Work responsibilities grew. I became a husband, a father, and a business owner. The days of riding 5+ times a week slowly faded into the rearview mirror. Some months, I had to work to get in 5 rides. And when I did ride, I found myself riding past the features that younger me wouldn’t have even paused at.
That was a tough pill to swallow.
I’d be lying if I said it didn’t sting the first time I rolled past a drop that I used to send without thinking. Part of me felt like I was losing something—like I was giving up. Like I was no longer “that guy.”
But over time, something shifted.
I stopped seeing the trail as a place to prove myself and started seeing it for what it really is—a place to connect with myself.
I realized I didn’t need to chase danger to feel alive. Just being out there, moving through the trees, feeling the wind in my face and my tires on dirt… that’s what really lit me up. That’s what mattered.
Don’t get me wrong—I still love to push myself. I still train. I still want to be strong and capable. But now, it’s not about ego or bravado. It’s about freedom. Longevity. Riding for a lifetime.
And that’s why I created MTB Strength Training Systems—to help riders like you (and me) stay strong, stay healthy, and keep enjoying the ride no matter how old we are or how much life demands from us.
I know what it’s like to feel your body change… to watch your schedule tighten… to feel like the rider you were is slipping away.
But I also know what it’s like to take that energy and shift it into something even better. To ride without pain. To train with purpose. To enjoy the trail without needing to conquer it.
That’s what this journey is about now—and if you’re feeling that shift too, you’re not alone.
Let me help you build the strength, confidence, and resilience to ride strong for decades to come.
