With Halloween behind us and the holidays right around the corner, our off-season training time is starting to tick away. We only have 6 months until April, which is when a lot of people’s riding and racing season starts to get into full swing.

And while 6 months seems like a long ways off and you have plenty of time until you need to worry about off-season training, I can tell you from experience that it will slip away fast unless you take action and get a plan in place. Before you realize what happened it will suddenly be the end of January and you’ll be scrambling trying to make up for lost time.

When this happens you start to rush the training process and skip steps. This may lead to some good short term results at the beginning of the season but these same riders usually find themselves fading towards the end of the riding season and rarely are they able to improve consistently from year to year.

Plus, to paraphrase my favorite Samurai Musashi, if you are a mountain biker you are a mountain biker all of the time. There is no real “off-season”, just a chance to improve as mountain bikers in a different way. Every day you are either getting better or you are getting worse and this is why having  plan to help you get better is important.

Every day you aren’t actively getting better you are getting worse, which certainly isn’t what you want.

So, with that in mind let me ask you a question…

What is your biggest hurdle in picking and following through with an off-season training plan?

If you’re like most riders I’ve talked to the answer to that is a lack of time and motivation to figure out what to do and then stick with it. You need someone who can tell you exactly what to do, makes it easy for you to do it and then checks in to encourage you along the way.

In other words, you need a coach on your side.

But not everyone has access to a good coach, especially one that understands the unique demands of mountain biking. Even fewer can actually afford the several hundred dollars a month it costs to hire a top mountain biking coach like myself.

And I completely understand – not many riders have that kind of extra money to invest in training. But I really hate not being able to help riders who really want to work with me and so I’ve decided to try something different this off-season.

For the first time ever I’m opening up a Group Coaching Program. This program will deliver the same experience and convenience I give my Private Coaching Clients but at a fraction of the cost.

You see, while I know that a personalized program greatly enhances rider’s results the truth is that 80-90% of what I do is pretty similar from rider to rider. Most riders have similar goals and come into training with similar movement and strength dysfunctions, which means that I can tell you what most of your physical issues and limitations are before I even meet you.

And while I can only work with a small group of riders through my Private Coaching Program, over the years I’ve refined my systems to the point that I can now make this Group Coaching Program available to more riders at a more budget oriented price.

I accomplish this by sending you a new workout each month, complete with links to video demos, coaching cue handouts and other supporting materials. You also get a phase overview where I outline the goals and priorities for that phase, as well as specific instructions for your flexibility, strength and cardio training. Where appropriate I even include cardio training options based on what type of riding you do (Enduro/ Trail, XC or DH), giving you an important way to customize your program.

I’ll also provide a weekly training plan so you know the best way to integrate everything from the program. The weekly plans are based on how many hours you have to train each week, helping you figure out how to maximize your time even if you only have 3 hours a week to train.

You don’t have to go anywhere or log into any sites – everything you need will be delivered directly to your inbox, saving you time and the mental stress of tracking everything down. You get just what you need, when you need it in a convenient format so you can spend less time thinking about what to do and more time training.

The workouts also don’t require any special equipment and can easily be done from a small home gym. Some dumbbells or kettlebells, a chin up bar, a bench, some rubber tubing/ bands and a rope are all you need for these workouts. This is literally the same materials and support I provide for my Private Coaching Program clients, delivered the same way. The only difference is the cost – it isn’t the same as a fully customized workout program, but it delivers 80-90% of the experience and results for less than 20% of the cost.
