A few months ago I got the chance to attend a really cool event put on by Strength Matters. It was their first summit in the US, and it was a great chance to hear some of the smartest people in the fitness industry present on the trends in what they are using to produce the best results. In case you missed it, you can check out this blog post to see a recap of what I learned at it.
While I was there I also got the chance to meet the guys behind the Strength Matters website and podcast – James, Seb and Josh. They are some really smart guys who are very passionate about helping other coaches be successful. They also have an unhealthy obsession with the South Park Movie and Family Guy but hey, who am I to judge…
Anyways, one of the things I found out was that all 3 of them had spent some time on a mountain bike. While none of them were currently riding, they still thought it was a really fun sport and we talked a bit about some of my training strategies for helping riders.
After the summit they asked if I’d like to come on their podcast to share my story and some of my training strategies for helping riders through strength training. Needless to say I was more than happy to do it, so we worked out the time zone math (they’re based in England) and set up a time to record the podcast.
They published the podcast last week with this commentary:
In this episode Seb and Josh are joined by author and professional mountain bike coach James Wilson. According to James, if an endurance sport and an action sport had a baby it would be mountain biking. James oversees MTB Strength Training Systems, which has lots of great information, videos and tips for mountain bikers. Not only does James reveal the keys to maneuvering the trails, he also shares some of his biking misadventure crashes along the way. James will put you on the right path to mountain biking on this episode of Strength Matters.
IN THIS EPISODE, YOU’LL:
– Learn how an alternate way to commute to work turns into a profession for James.
– Understand the technical skill element that’s critical to the sport.
– Get solid tips on how to move your bike to safely maneuver the trails you face.
– Hear advice from James on how kettlebell training will help improve your movements.
– Find out ways to get additional information to prepare you for the sport of mountain biking.
I hope you enjoy the podcast as much as I enjoyed doing it. Until next time…
