Poor Man’s Jungle Gym

Although I highly encourage you to invest in a Jungle Gym or TRX Trainer I understand that not everyone can afford one or is willing to invest in one. However, some exercises like inverted rows are a huge part of a good mountain bike training program and so you need to have something that will let you do them. Here is a “Poor Man’s” jungle gym so you can get some of the advantages for less than $20.

  1. LOL That’s pretty slick. I was wondering what you were going to do with it because it doesn’t stretch like resistance bands, but you pulled it off. Neat idea.

Excellent. Thanks, James. I’ve been thinking abour rigging up some kind of strap system lately.

I’ve been thinking about it further and one could add a handle for or foot strap (a la TRX/Jungle Gym) using a finer piece of rope (e.g. a climbers rope) attached by a Prusik knot.

How to tie a Prusik knot:

@ Janet – very interesting, it looks like we may put the TRX and Jungle Gym out of business! Just kidding…

You would start to run into some issues with being able to set the handles at the appropriate height for different exercises and then there is the whole “do you trust your know tying capabilities” thing. This would be great in a pinch but seeing as how a Jungle Gym costs around $60 I think that if you wanted to do more than basic rows and stuff I demoed on the video you’re better off getting the real thing.

Thanks for the input though, it is a good idea…
