Would you recommend the low cut or high cut 510 Impact?

If you tend to smash ankles then get the high tops. I like the freedom of movement with the low tops but you can’t go wrong with either.

Hey James, just thought I’d let you know that I (Norwegian MTB rider in Australia) just received my Sam Hill 5.10s from Wiggle, which are like the Impact lows just with nicer colours (and a tiny bit lighter). Wearing them at work now; they look great, and I nailed the size which is lucky due to the international shipping (no-one in Australia stock 5.10s). Also I got some Shimano DX pedals (PD-MX30); there were so many but in the end I decided I was happy with my other Shimano pedals and these looked decent.

I can’t wait to relearn my pedalling technique – or maybe not? Maybe it wasn’t so bad? Time will tell; in fact I may mount them on my commuter (carbon Avanti Cadent 2.0 racer) so as to get a feel for them before actually hitting the dirt on the 29er!

Thanks for your persistence in pointing out that locked in shoes (catch all for SPDs, beaters etc?) aren’t the only way to go.

Glad to hear you were able to get it all put together, sounds a little funny that Sam Hill’s own shoes can’t be found in his home country! Keep me posted on how it goes for you and thanks for keeping an open mind about the subject, that’s all I’ve ever really asked…

James, I’m almost ready to bite the bullet on some flats. What pedals do you recommend?
    Thanks

I just got a pair of Diety’s and love them. Acros AFlats are really good as well.
