    Re mtn biking for fat loss – I think there’s quite a lot of evidence that for most people, exercise is not a very good way of losing fat. The best way to lose fat is to eat less. Suppose you want to lose a pound of fat a week – a pretty modest goal. That’s around 3500 calories you have to get rid of each week. Suppose you burn around 8 cals a minute mtn biking. That means you have to mtn bike for 7 hours a week to lose a pound of fat AND not compensate for ANY of that with energy drinks, post ride pig-outs, beers, etc. Like you say, there’s a lot of reasons to mtn bike – most important is it’s fun, second it’s a great form of exercise. But it’s not going to make you lean by itself.
