The Warrior Attitude

I just re-read Miyamoto Musashi’s Book of Five Rings for the 5th or 6th time and came across an amazing quote that I wanted to share…

“The warrior attitude is very simple. Focus you mind on your goal, constantly strive for perfection and don’t allow yourself to be sidetracked.”

Thanks, I needed that tonight. I had promised myself I could race if I hit my weight and fitness goal. Unfortunately life trumped racing even though I hit my goals. Now this week I find myself unmotivated and slipping on both fronts. Thanks again, now to go place this quote in a few key areas (kitchen, training room).

I have a big trouble with this. We live in times when very few know where they are heading in life, we are told to be realistic and therefore we loose ability to dream, therefore we can’t see what we really want. It is so hard to focus, whether you like it or not all sorts of information bangs at you, the only way is to wear ear plugs and look down the pavement as you walk. And all you are shot at is so made so it gets as easily imprinted in your brain as possible. What you see/visualize with your “inner” eyes is what you follow. The mind is like a homing missile – Sram XX1!

We need to learn how to focus, train our brains first. Maybe it starts with remembering how were we as kids when someone asked us: What would you do today if I told you you could do/be anything? Because what they tell us this days is: what do you think you can achieve that is realistic? There is no focusing on goal, when we don’t really have it. I’m gonna be strong, I’m gonna jump well, are no goals, rather wishes. A should, not a must.
